Looking out the window all is white and the flakes are falling thick and steady. Giving me a foretaste of where I'll be one week from today: Minneapolis, to participate in the Spark Festival of Electronic Music and Arts, a conference/performance series involving electronic music of both the experimental avant-classical kind and the techno-rave sort, held annually at the University of Minnesota. On Friday February 29th I'll be giving a sonically-illustrated lecture about London's pirate radio tradition (5PM,Room 230 Anderson Hall) and on Sunday March 2nd I'll be giving a more general talk about electronic dance music's "principles and praxis" (1 PM, Room 225, Ferguson Hall).
Check out the new issue of FACT to which I've contributed a piece on the 20 best 'Bleep' tracks ever made.

Carl goes one better:
Abbotomized
As in "frontal abbotomy".
And it was staring me in the face all along!

well clearly we need a term for the opposite of Wyatting... hipsters falling prey to the pull of the plebeian, their cool crumbling as they helplessly succumb to that caged-in longing to join in....
hmmm, how about....
Abbotized?
as in "oh what an atmosphere/I love a party with a happy atmosphere"...

"Sodcasting"--the streets's version of Wyatting*, perhaps?
* also diagnosed/semi-defended by somebody, i forget who, as a doomed, pathos-laden attempt to reassert the social dimension of music, resist the privatisation of public sonic space....
